Jack Palzet of Deerfield [G] v Brayden Swanson of Oswego [R] (126)

This round of 16 match at the IWCOA frosh/soph state tournament featured Jack Palzet of Deerfield High School in the green anklet and Brayden Swanson of Oswego High School in the red anklet. Palzet had beaten his previous opponent by a score of 7-3 and Swanson was coming off a first period fall. 

The action got started early as Swanson tried to score with an outside trip from an over/under position. After a short scramble, Swanson was able to throw Palzet to his back for two takedown points and three near fall points. Palzet was able to fight off his back, but ended up getting turned again for three more near fall points. The first period ended with Swanson up 8-0.

Palzet won the disc flip between periods and decided to take bottom, which was a good choice as he was able to hit a roll that resulted in a reversal and an nearly two near fall points to cut the gap to 8-2. After fighting off his back, Swanson was able to complete a reversal of his own pushing the score to 10-2, which remained the score at the end of the second period.

Swanson took bottom to start the third period in the hopes of building on his lead. It looked like he was going to secure a reversal (or at least an escape) early in the period, but Palzet was able to hang on and force a restart after going out of bounds not having lost control. Palzet was able to ride out Swanson in the third period, but unable to turn him to close the gap. The final match score was 10-2.
